Upper School Spring Trips

From local venues to traveling abroad, many ECS upper school students participated in class trips during the spring semester.

Ninth grade students took a field trip to Cullman, Alabama, to visit the St. Bernard's Abbey and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The Medieval History and Literature students were able to see architecture based on Medieval cathedrals, observe monks at prayers, and enjoy bread baked at the monastery! The 9th grade's resident organist, Noah Gilstrap, even got the chance to play the organ in the Abbey church. The students were able to see and experience many things that they have been studying in History and Literature, enriching their study of the cultural and religious developments of the Middle Ages.

The Sophomore class made their way around Savannah, GA and St. Simons Island, focusing on the trip's theme, "Restoration".  The tour traced this theme through America's history, including stops at the Homefront Museum, Fort Frederica, Independent Presbyterian Church, and many other sites in Savannah. The students enjoyed a walking tour of historic Savannah, a trolley tour, visited the SCAD Museum of Art, as well as the First African Baptist Church of Savannah. Each night, the group enjoyed sharing their evening meal while talking through all they had learned during the day, as well as participating in some team building activities.

Eastwood Juniors had the opportunity to explore Washington, D.C. They stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, walked the Tidal Basin while observing the famous cherry blossoms, and biked across the National Mall while taking in views of the White House. Additionally, they toured the Holocaust Museum, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives where they looked at copies of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and the Magna Carta.

The Senior class embarked on an unforgettable journey across Europe, experiencing the rich tapestry of history, culture, and iconic landmarks. Their adventures included seeing the Eiffel Tower, viewing the grandeur of the Colosseum, admiring the Arc de Triomphe, the Pantheon, and the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. In Florence, they delved into the culinary traditions of Italy through a cooking class, learning the art of pasta-making. The Senior class deepened their appreciation for art and history, knowledge of European culture, and forged lifelong memories.
